When selecting an aquarium account for the surrounding environment, such as, air conditioning vents, windows, warm rooms, cool rooms, electrical outlets and other obstacles that may cause changes to your aquarium environment.  For example, an aquarium located near a window can receive excess light and will cause more algae throughout the life of the aquarium, therefore causing more work and headaches for you.
Aquariums come in many different colors and shapes to fit your decor, keep in mind filtration hanging off the back of the aquarium will push the aquarium 4 - 5 inches out from the wall. Finally, figure out which type of fish you like, the shape and size of the aquarium can limit the number and types of fish you decide to put in it.

Ex.  Tangs - Longer and larger aquariums are better, these fish like to swim.
Clownfish - Any size or shape will do.
Lionfish - They will eat anything that fits in their mouth and they put out a lot of
waste.  An aquarium to small will limit the other fish you can put with the Lionfish.
